Cartoon Network brings back Cartoon Planet and Toonami: A step in the right direction?

How did this happen? Remember all the cries of "BETRAYAL" when Cartoon Network turn their back on their loyal fans when they slowly got rid of their old cartoon shows such as Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Laboratory, and Courage The Cowardly Dog, and then went for the jugular vein with cancelling Toonami? Remember when they started pumping out live action shows, and importing Canadian cartoons and basically said "We don't feel like making original shit anymore."? Well apparently they heard your bitching.. er I mean campaigning for "Bring Back The Cartoon Network of old.".
Slowly over the past year their programming started to come back such as bringing back Looney Tunes plus Tom and Jerry, then they started to rerun Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Now in a fell swoop, they started to air their old shows via a new block on Fridays called Cartoon Planet (shows like Cow and Chicken, Dexter's Lab, and other Cartoon Cartoons). Then the Saturday of the same week, they decided as a "April Fools Joke" to air Toonami on Adult Swim, then a month and a half later via a twitter campaign, it's back on the air. Wait a minute, this could all be one hell of a coincidence can it? Hell fucking no.

Now, in my defense.. the programming has been slowly improving before the revival of those famous shows came to be. They made Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Star Wars The Clone Wars. All of those shows are damn good. But it seems to be that it was still missing that core audience that it had during 2002-2006. So no it's not a coincidence, they know they made a mistake to abandon their hallmark programs, so the network decided to disguise these revived shows via a 20th celebration. C'mon, this is all a ploy to trick us that this all for the cause of a celebration. Bullshit. Cartoon Network made this celebration an apology letter to all those disgruntled fans of the network. Especially Toonami, they were going to bring it back regardless of any twitter campaign.

But you know what, I'm glad as hell they are doing this. Because even though this celebration is more so of an apology, it is a celebration. It is a celebration to those who have been there from day one, during the cartoon cartoon era, and the ones that were there from Toonami's rise and fall, even the ones that were there after the fact that their favorite shows were gone and started to watch Adventure Time and others. Loyalty is golden.

But I stand by from my original point, it is an apology letter to those betrayed fans and a plea to come back, "we promise we will never do this to you ever again." This is good for the short term for the network, to gain back those viewers but overall it will hurt them in the long run. You are basically setting yourself up for backlash for your newly acquired fanbase that may not have been there for the good times. They will all be saying "Why are you showing the old bullshit?" "What the hell is this shit? SO OLD!" "How come you are showing Cartoon Planet instead of reruns of The Clone Wars?" I say this, Cartoon Network made a mistake.. and I applaud them for showing the good ol times to us, but I think it's time to learn and let go. This is a business, and nostalgia is not a very successful business model, cartoons are made for kids.. not nostalgia buffs, at least for cable networks. They have to think about the future, not the past. That's why I think that Cartoon Planet will not live past this year because the Clone Wars still has to air with new episodes later this year, hell even Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry won't make it. The only thing that will survive is Toonami because some of the fanbase were regular Toonami viewers. Adult Swim thrives on reruns so it fits perfectly on the schedule. Unless Cartoon Network figures out a successful formula to balance the old with the new (why not just alternate the stuff via season, just give the old stuff the summer?) don't expect it to last long

All in all, enjoy the show. It won't last. Enjoy it Cartoon Network faithful.
