For those who don’t know what Mystery Science Theater 3000 is, well basically it was a very good cult tv show that shows a guy and 2 robots being experimented on, and they have to watch shitty movies and shorts, but in order to keep their sainity they “Riff” or heckle during the movie, in other words make fun of it by making sarcastic comments. Ok that’s the gist of it, now on to the idea.
Ok, I have a really rough outline for my online series (Yeah, It’s now a web series.) This series will be kept in the spirit of MST3K, but with a modern take on it. Here is the main Outline!
**(Main Plot: Well, in the spirit of Mystery Science Theater 3000, House Theater Arrest 300 (Title still pending) is a modern take of one of the best cult television shows. Instead of space and all that jazz, all of this is taking place here on earth, here on the quaint state of Illinois (Wonder if Nostalgia Critic comes and helps them out, yeah he lives in Chicago)
This is the story (Yeah there is a story), about Jeff And Dan, who run the most popular web show on the internet. Jeff, who is a comedian and an avid film buff. Amazing Dan (Yeah that’s his name) Is a comedian but not so much of a film buff. But boy he is tall! For Years they have downloaded movies and other media (Illegally) for material for their show. So (but only a select few) eventually get caught and get incarcerated.
Since their web show gets pumped full of cash each month (Why didn’t they use that to buy shitty movies in the first place? BECAUSE THEIR SHITTY MOVIES!) they can afford a really good lawyer who is also their family lawyer, since he is the modern day’s Perry Mason, they worked out a deal with them. This next part is very unrealistic, but this is all done in the spirit of MST3K. Instead of going to Jail and not paying most of the copyright money, they have to riff on movies for a whole year, each day a new movie. 365 movies a year (But only 26 movies in show time, 26 episodes equals a season. A episode equals 2 weeks, so 26 X 2=52. 52 weeks equals a year.) But the dudes who are supervising this are a cruel bunch, although we will never get to know the organization, their intentions are cold. Since the deal didn’t went into exact detail, so loopholes are amuck!
So instead of rifting on shitty movies all the time, (in fact that’s their warmups before the big show) they have to pick apart some of the greatest films of all time. (I.E Rocky, Ben Hur, Batman 1989, and others.) Jeff is shocked and appalled about this turn of events, while Dan says that they have to do this or we will be the real life version of OZ. (An HBO show) So since they have the qualifications to do this, this shouldn’t be any different than before since they do it every week on their web show. But Jeff will be slowly going insane each and every episode (Yeah this shit just got real!) since he has to pick apart masterpieces.)**
For those who made it this far and not got too bored, I would really like this to be a success, not groundbreaking but enough to get me some fans. Whoever wants to be a part of this idea, please contact me!
